Oilfield emulsions are stable mixtures of immiscible fluids encountered in oilfield production operations. The emulsion is normally produced water, either from condensation, entrained in the produced oil. This condition can result from the production process or production equipment mixing the produced crude and water in the presence of naturally occurring emulsifiers and production sediments. No two emulsions behave the same, and therefore breaking them can be a complicated task. The emulsion breakers must be selected on a case-by-case basis.
