Oil and gas production is normally in the presence of water as well as the desired hydrocarbon stream. Acid gasses such as hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide are often found in produced fluids as well. The resulting mixture can be quite corrosive to the metal in oilfield production equipment. Similar effects can be found in pipeline and water or gas injection systems.
